Warm Fleece
is fleece warmer than a sweatshirt?
i am going cold weather hiking and am wondering if a fleece will provide a much warmer layer than a sweatshirt? i just dont want to spend the money on one if it doesnt provide any significant benifit.
for hiking fleece is your best bet
most sweatshirts are made of mostly cotton fabric - warm and comfortable until it gets wet - it will - from sweat or even humid air - once wet it has virtually no insulation value
fleece is made from synthetics (usually polyester) and the fabric will not absorb moisture - you can dunk it in the creek, shake it out, and it will still help you stay warm
cotton and cold weather in the outdoors are not a good combination - avoid sweats, denim jeans, T-shirts
