Swim Training
Are there training requirements to be a swim teacher in the US?
My kid is required to swim once a week at her school. (Private school.) My problem is lack of supervision. There is only one teacher present to supervise 20 kids. Are there uniform standards for teacher student ratio in this setting. Are there any standards at all?
I am surprised that the liability insurance for the school does not require a lifeguard to be present. Or is the teacher certified as a lifeguard and has taken the standard CPR, etc. classes?
Consider the public pools and how many lifeguards they have, and 1-20 seems to not be unreasonable.
But, to answer your question, you need to call your local govt and ask what the local requirements are for supervision in a pool.
