Teenager new to doing laundry?
Hi, in general how long does it take for a large load to dry including heavy items such as jeans and sweaters? Also, which setting on the dryer makes your clothes shrink? Should I just set it on timed dry??? Thanks for any help.
My mom's at work. I want to try on my own without ruining my clothes.
Sorry some of these people are being kind of mean to you--we've all been there at some point, and at least you're asking, rather than just throwing it in there and guessing (like my husband does!). My advice would be that for women's clothes, assuming you don't have a bunch of dirt and stains to deal with, the safest thing to do is just wash everything in cold water, and dry everything on low. To be on the safe side, it's better to separate light and dark clothes into separate loads, something I'm not very good about doing these days--and I have the grayish-blue bras to prove it!
If there's something that you need to get dry faster than usual (like you're waiting to get dressed until a pair of jeans is dry), the suggestion of putting just a couple of items in the dryer with a dry towel works very well, usually cutting the time down to maybe 15-20 minutes (and if you've forgotten to take stuff out of the dryer, putting a wet towel in with them to dry again for 10-15 minutes takes care of that issue nicely). If you're just doing a regular, big load, though, it's probably going to take somewhere between an hour and an hour and a half. Another way to cut down on the time a little is to start the load at a higher temperature, dry it about half way, so that a lot of the water's gone, but the clothes are still very damp, and then turn the temperature down. That way, you shouldn't mess up the clothes the way you might if you dried them all the way on the higher temperature. Good luck!
