Buying "healthy" dog food questions?
Everyone says not to buy Pedigree or Purina or ANY Grocery Store product because they are awful, no good, and FULL of garbage. However, where the heck are you supposed to find these healthy dog foods at? I'm a busy person, I can't be worrying about ordering my dog's food online. I love my dog to death and all and want what's best for him, but what the heck? Why don't they sell these healthy dog foods somewhere convienent, like Pathmark or even just a pet store?
Most pet chain stores / grocery stores / box stores sell the product that they can get the largest mark up from. If I told you to get First Mate dog food you probably have never heard of it because its a smaller company that makes great food and spends very little on marketing.
Most of the Good dog food companies are smaller companies/corps that just make dog food, not treats and toys and clothes. They specialize in just dog food and they make the best product they can.
The people to blame are pet owners themselves, if everyone were to stop buying ol'roy or purina, or pedigre then the pet stores would be forced to supply proper dog food.
The truth is most pet owners don't consider the dogs health or diet when buying food or they can't afford to suppy good food so they go to walmart of the grocery store and buy the cheapest thing they can.
You don't have to buy from the internet, I have 3 good pet stores in my city that supplies a range of good foods. You will have to put in some phone time and start looking at the smaller petshops in your area.
Don't be fooled by some stores saying that their house brand is the best on the market either. Do some research in to what foods best suit your dogs activity level, whats affordable, whats available (incase you get low you don't want to have to wait for your shop to order you a bag) even your vet can get most foods ( you will pay a large price and I have problems with some of them as well)
At the end of the day you will have to put in some work in finding a pet store you trust and like that carries the food you choose.
