Med Dog
Is there a breed of med/large dog that is known for being calm as a puppy and an adult?
I know all are more rambunctious as babies, but I have a bad back and need one that hopefully can be as calm as possible. Since I can't bend over excessively.
Neopolitan mastiffs are usually very lazy puppies and pretty lazy adults too, but I don't recommend getting one since they can be difficult to train since they are so unmotivated for the most part. Great danes are sometimes calm as adults, but I also know some who love to race around all the time.
I think you'd be best to go to a shelter or rescue and look into the dogs they have there. Then you will know exactly what you are getting into, how they are on leash, the exercise requirements,etc. I think a golden retriever would be a great dog for you if you find one with the right temperament. I had one once and she was extremely calm as an adult (over 3 years of age), but as puppies, these dogs can sometimes be extremely active (and I've also known some that are very active as adults).
