What is the ideal diet for a pregnant dog?
My dad's dog is pregnant. Yes, she should have been spayed, no the pups were not planned. But at this point it is what it is. she is a German Shep and the neighbor's dog (the father) is a GS/huskie mix. She is about half way through her pregnancy. My question is this what is the ideal diet for her to be eating at this time?
I'd be feeding her puppy food and as much as she wants at this time. Puppy food is not only for puppies but for pregnant and nursing mother dogs. It has extra protein, calcium and other things that dogs need at those stages.
After the pups are weaned and all that, see if Dad won't get her spayed. But stuff happens; just take good care of her.
