Black White

How do you produce a Black & White effect on stage?
I saw an effect while watching the Grammys where everything on stage went black and white as if it were being filmed with balck & white film. I saw this effect with NSYNC earlier and was wondering how they do it. Is it done with gels on the stage lights? Please help. I would love to use it in future productions. Thanks!
they do it on computers to do it live would be hard, you could use makeup and get clothes in diferant shades of grey
black and white the same with the set and I think diming the lights would help
