After Wedding
Renewal, one year later after courthouse wedding. How to go about this confusing situation?
I know very little about weddings and traditions. My husband and I are both 20, and got married 6 months ago at a courthouse right before he got deployed. He wants to have a bigger wedding/renewal with family and a reception, which we've never had. He will be home soon before our 1 year anniversary which is on a wednesday.
How do I do this the right way? Do we call it a renewal of vows? Do we have it the anniversary? Or the weekend after/before? :/ Help!
I pretty much agree with Krissly. A vow renewal is not the same as a wedding and doesn't have the usual "trappings" of a wedding, like the dress, attandants, etc. And the "reception" part is really just a party, not a wedding reception, because the whole purpose of a wedding reception is to thank people for participating in your big day. Your "big day" was 6 months ago, and when you chose to do it that way, you gave up the bigger wedding.
You can still do a vow renewal and these can be lovely, but they're usually for a later anniversary and they're toned down type events with just family and close friends. To be honest, it's a bit odd to throw one on your first anniversary, but it's been done, I'm sure. Just call it a celebration or something, but be aware these are not gift giving events.
